Split and window AC washing, filters
AC cleaning and washing
In Saudi conditions — where dust is part of daily life and the AC runs most of the day — dirt builds up in filters and coils faster than most people expect. The result: weaker cooling, unpleasant smells, less clean air and higher electricity use. Washing your AC regularly restores much of its efficiency.
With SaudiAirCondition you request cleaning for one AC or every unit in your home, and we pass your request to AC cleaning and maintenance companies in your city, who contact you with their offers.

What does AC washing include?
A regular clean differs from a deep wash, but a complete service usually covers:
Filter cleaning
Removing built-up dust from the air filters and washing them — the simplest and most effective step.
Indoor coil wash
Cleaning the evaporator coil with suitable products and a cover that protects walls and furniture from water.
Blower wheel cleaning
Removing sticky dirt from the barrel fan that causes smells and weak airflow.
Outdoor unit wash
Clearing dust and leaves from the condenser and its fins so heat is released properly.
Drain clearing
Cleaning the drain pan and line to prevent leaks and odours.
Quick test afterwards
Running the AC to confirm cooling and proper drainage.
Signs your AC needs cleaning
If you notice any of these, it’s time for a wash:
- Bad smell on start-up
A musty or damp smell points to bacteria and mould inside the unit.
- Dust in the airflow
Black spots on the vent or dust in the room after switching on.
- Weaker cooling than before
A dirty coil can’t exchange heat efficiently, so cooling fades gradually.
- Water leaks
A drain blocked by dirt can make water drip inside the room.
- Allergies or coughing
Family members with allergies are affected by dust in conditioned air.
- It’s been a long time
Cleaning by AC type
The washing method depends on the type of AC:
Split AC washing
The indoor unit is washed in place using a water-catching cover, and the outdoor unit is rinsed.
Window AC washing
The unit is usually removed or opened to wash the coil, condenser and pan completely.
Central ACs
Cleaning main filters and coils, and possibly air duct cleaning.
Cassette and concealed units
The ceiling grille must be removed to reach the unit — this needs experience and special tools.
What affects the cost of AC cleaning?
Cost depends on several factors, mainly:
- Number of units
Washing several ACs in one visit is usually cheaper per unit.
- AC type
A window unit wash with removal differs from washing a split in place; cassettes take longer.
- How dirty it is
Units neglected for a long time need a deep wash and more cleaning product.
- Outdoor unit
Whether the offer includes washing the outdoor unit, and how easy it is to reach.
- Cleaning products
Some companies include sanitising and anti-bacterial products in the service.
Ask what each company means by a “regular clean” and a “deep wash” — the label alone isn’t enough to compare offers.

AC cleaning FAQs
How often should an AC be washed?
In most Saudi cities a deep wash once or twice a year is recommended, with you cleaning the filter yourself every two weeks to a month in summer. Dusty areas may need more frequent cleaning.
Can I clean my AC myself?
You can easily wash the filters with water and let them dry before refitting. Coil, blower and outdoor unit washing are better left to a technician so the fins aren’t damaged and water doesn’t reach electrical parts.
Does washing remove bad smells?
Usually yes, because smells come from dirt and bacteria in the coil, fan and pan. If the smell persists after washing, the drain may be blocked and need checking.
How long does an AC wash take?
It depends on the AC type, how dirty it is and the number of units. Ask the company for the expected duration when agreeing the appointment.
Will the technician protect my wall and furniture?
Professional companies use a special water-catching cover and protect the floor. Ask beforehand, especially if the AC is above furniture or a bed.
